Meet Scott
So much can be said about a 45-year career at Dorner that it’s difficult to sum it up in one article. Scott K. has been with Dorner since practically the beginning. He worked directly with the Dorner brothers, who founded the company, and was there for the transition from a small tool and die shop to the international conveyor manufacturer the company is today.
Starting with Dorner at 14, Scott swept floors and did small tasks on the shop floor as needed. After attending machining and electrical repair school, he moved through the ranks in the fabrication and machining department. Scott worked on presses, lathes, CNC machines, and much more. “Even after years of being at a company, you never quit learning.”
Now, Scott is finishing his career as a Senior Vertical Machining Lead, passing on his years of knowledge to the next generation of Dorner Machinists. He enjoys the everyday challenges of leading a team and prides himself in always being someone anyone can answer questions. Throughout his years here, he never stopped working to gain as much knowledge as possible and became a vital part of Dorner’s team.
For Scott, the most rewarding aspect of the job is being “the guy” with the experience and knowledge to help his coworkers and the company as a whole. But, most importantly, others enjoy being around and working with Scott. He is known throughout the company as a leader who sticks up for his team and coworkers and pushes for new opportunities for everyone. Scott is always willing to help and offer his expertise when questions arise. “Even engineers will come out to the shop and ask me, ‘Hey, do you think this will work?'”
Looking back on the many years with Dorner, Scott reflected, “It’s been a good ride.” While his retirement is fast approaching, Scott will surely be with Dorner for at least a few more years. He still has a lot of knowledge to pass on and more to accomplish in his incredible career.
